My Dad, John Houston, Jr., and his Dad, John Houston, Sr., (my Paw Paw) are incredible cooks. My entire family loves food! We connect with each other through cooking, eating, and sharing recipes. My Dad worked for a restaurant in Slidell, LA as a cook when he was going back to school while my brother and I were young. He learned so much about cooking while working there. He can smoke and grill brisket, steak, seafood.... you name it, like no other! My Paw Paw is also an amazing artist. He paints, draws, and carves life-like animals. He has won many awards for his carvings.
My brother, Trey Houston, is also an incredible artist. His art is so different and more abstract than my Paw Paw's. It amazes me how he can think of these ideas and paint it without even free handing his idea on the material. He does such an amazing job capturing the detail of people. Here are just some of his works:
My mom (Jo Lynn Houston) is not necessarily an artist but has a great eye for design especially interior design. She's a great decorator, but does not do it professionally (just for fun). Her parents (my Grandmom and Granddad) do a lot of buying and selling antiques, so she always comes across something different and unique. She is that person that will go into a thrift/antique store and find a treasure out of a pile of junk. She just has patience when it comes to that sort of thing.
My Granny (Cheryle Pearson) is an incredibly talented writer. She is the author (I.C. Pearson) of "The Powell Mysteries" series. You can check them out on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
All of these people helped shape me into who I am today with my creativity.
